Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB and still pick the school through the DE form. A school can also cap how many DE candidates a department takes, so a strong result is not a guarantee of a place.
The Direct Entry routes, in plain terms
These are the national DE routes JAMB recognises. Which of them a particular school accepts — and what each one is worth in points — is shown above once you pick that school.
- ND (National Diploma)
- Usually admits into 200 level in a related course. Most schools weight Upper Credit and above far more heavily than a Lower Credit.
- HND
- Often admits into 200 or 300 level, depending on the department and how closely the HND matches the degree.
- NCE
- Common route into education faculties, and into the arts and sciences where the teaching subject matches.
- IJMB
- A one-year A-Level equivalent accepted for 200-level entry by many Nigerian universities.
- JUPEB
- Run by the universities themselves; a good JUPEB result normally admits into 200 level at the affiliated school.
- A'Level / Cambridge
- Two or three A-Level passes in the right subjects, in the subject combination the course requires.
- First degree / diploma
- Accepted for a second degree or a cross-faculty change, subject to the department agreeing the transfer.
Buy the DE form only from JAMB's own portal or an accredited CBT centre, and confirm the school still has DE slots for your course before you pay any screening fee.
