JAMB Registrar Oloyede Bows Out, Aina Takes Over
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede officially hands over as JAMB Registrar to Prof. Segun Aina on Friday, July 31, 2026, marking the end of a decade-long tenure.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will on Friday, July 31, 2026, formally usher in a new era in its leadership as outgoing Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, hands over to his successor, Prof. Segun Aina.
The official handover ceremony holds at 10:00 a.m., with live broadcast on JAMB's official social media platforms. The board has invited the public to witness what it describes as a significant milestone in its institutional history.
The ceremony marks the end of Oloyede's tenure, which expires on July 31 after nearly a decade of reforms, and the official commencement of Aina's leadership of Nigeria's tertiary admissions agency.
About the Incoming Registrar
Prof. Segun Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to succeed Oloyede. At 39 (turning 40 in July), he becomes the youngest person ever appointed Registrar of JAMB.
Aina holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master's degree and PhD from Loughborough University, and completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School. He brings over 15 years of post-graduation experience, having worked with examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, along with several state ministries of education.
According to the Presidency, Aina's connection with JAMB began during his NYSC service, where he gained early experience in national admissions processes and data management systems.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would consolidate the reforms achieved under Oloyede's administration while further strengthening JAMB's examination processes, digital infrastructure, and institutional efficiency.
Outgoing Registrar's Legacy
Prof. Oloyede assumed office in 2016 and became closely associated with reforms that reshaped JAMB's public image, including stronger accountability measures, tighter admission monitoring, increased use of technology, and higher remittances to government coffers.
